About the 11 Plus Exam
Helping children prepare confidently for Grammar School entrance examinations.
The 11 Plus is an entrance exam taken by children in Year 6 for admission into grammar schools. The exam assesses a child’s reasoning ability, problem solving skills, and core English and Maths knowledge.
Although the format varies between regions and schools, most grammar schools use a GL based structure, and the exam generally covers four key areas:
English
Comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, and understanding written passages.
Mathematics
Numerical reasoning, arithmetic, and multi step problem solving based on the Key Stage 2 curriculum
Verbal Reasoning
Language based logic, pattern recognition, word relationships, and reasoning skills.
Non-Verbal Reasoning
Visual reasoning using shapes, patterns, sequences, and spatial awareness.
Why Prepare for the 11+?
The 11+ aims to identify children who are well suited for the academic pace of grammar schools. Preparing for the exam helps students strengthen their thinking skills, improve accuracy, and build confidence for secondary school.
